Who wants knowledgeable, educated, enlightened, wise and independent

- citizens
- voters
- tax payers
- consumers?

How about

- soldiers
- state security & foreign intelligence personnel
- diplomats
- law enforcement personnel
- prosecutors
- judges
- prison guards, probation & parole officers?

Certainly not "The Man" / "The Establishment" -- i.e. those who own & control "The System" (Big Business & Government)

Why?

Because people like that (wise & in the know)

- are hard to exploit, manipulate, fool, brainwash (through private & public media) and control.

- could get some ideas about

-- true democracy,

-- true freedom of speech & a free press

-- true government for the people & by the people

-- true nature of evil*

* Evil is when you do something that brings you pleasure and/or benefit ("power," material gain, financial, political, legal etc.) despite the fact (while disregarding) that your actions cause another living being(s) pain, suffering, loss (material, legal, spiritual), injury and even death.

Evil is pure egoism.

Examples:

1. A Rapist rapes because it brings him pleasure while disregarding the fact that his act causes the victim pain and suffering and loss of freedom.

2. A Robber or a thief robs & steals because it brings him material benefit 9and sometimes pleasure & sense of power) while disregarding the fact that his act causes the victim(s) pain and suffering and loss of freedom.

3. A corrupt businessman or a group of wealthy businessmen (e.g. billionaires) -- hereinafter "Wealthy Controllers" -- who "legally" buy, control or illegally bribe / corrupt

- political parties,
- politicians,
- elected & appointed government officials, and/or
- senior civil servants

- law enforcement,
- prosecutors,
- judges
- intelligence personnel
- diplomats

- other key personnel in all three branches of government (executive, legislative and judicial)

- journalists, managers and stakeholders of media companies
-- news media
-- social media
-- entertainment media (TV, Movies, Radio, Music, Theater, etc.)

in order to

- have the government give them preferential treatment
-- government contracts,
-- government subsidies,

-- government protection & promotion in foreign markets,

-- favorable laws & regulations,

- prevent government regulators, law enforcement and prosecutors from investigating such arrangements (conspiracies?)

-- turning a blind eye on wrongdoing (civil or criminal)
-- giving them only a slap on the wrist when caught

- keep the public unaware or misinformed of the arrangement through

-- favorable media coverage,
-- media misinformation, fake news and etc.
-- media censorship,

while disregarding the fact that their arrangement causes

1. losses to tax payers through

- higher taxes: someone has to pay for all that
-- government debt,
-- government programs,
-- tax breaks & government subsidies
that favor the Wealthy Controllers.

- less or lower quality government services: more spent on programs that favor the Wealthy controllers = less money left in the government budget for other programs.

- potential forced sale of government assets to fund budget deficits or repay government debt.

2. takes away from voters true value of their votes

- the ability to elect officials
-- based on unbiased (objective), and comprehensive independent media coverage of the candidate
-- who will be accountable to and will serve for the benefit of their voters (the electorate), nit their Wealthy Controllers.

3. deprives citizens of true control over their government and democracy

- when political parties, politicians, government branches & agencies and government officials act in the best interest of their Wealthy Controllers and NOT the ordinary people, the citizens who elected them.

4. deprives citizens of having a free press and freedom of speech (from media censorship)

- when Wealthy Controllers manipulate the media resources that they own / control to steer media content & coverage in order to protect & promote the Controllers' interests (financial, legal, political, etc.)

5. Subjects citizens & military personnel to risk of injury and death

- When governments, acting in the interests of Wealthy Controllers, promote, organize, facilitate, manage or conduct in foreign countries through

-- interference in the foreign country's domestic politics and elections,

-- regime change operations,

-- civil unrest and civil wars,

-- ethnic, racial and/or religious conflicts, persecution and even cleansing,

-- material support to groups (opposition, pro-government, paramilitary) that engage in extremism or terrorism,

-- political and military conflicts with neighboring countries, involving

i. War crimes,
ii. Crimes against humanity,
-- Promotion of xenophobia, racism and religious persecution.
iii. Prohibited weapons of war, such as conventional weapons (like mines, cluster and incendiary munitions)
iv. Weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical, biological and climate)

resulting in military conflicts in which U.S. citizens (civilian & military) can get injured, kidnapped or killed, not to mention the civilians of country(ies) in question, including vulnerable women, children and the elderly.

Now, if that's not evil, then I don't know what evil is.

And the first step in fighting such evil is exposing it to the people who are knowledgeable and wise enough to understand it -- so that they can make a stand against it before it's too late: 

before it has done irreparable harm to America and has irreversibly morphed / corrupted a declared democracy into a corporate oligarchy or a corporate-controlled authoritarian / fascist state.

The first question:

"Osho, I have got all the degrees that a university can offer.
Why am I still ignorant?"

Knowledge has no capacity to dispel ignorance.

Knowledge is a false phenomenon; it is not wisdom at all, it is just the opposite of wisdom.

Knowledge is borrowed; wisdom is the flowering of your innermost being. 

You can borrow a plastic flower, but if you want real roses then you will have to grow them in your innermost being.

No university can offer it, no scripture can offer it, no scholarship is capable of doing it.

They are all impotent efforts, but they have been deceiving millions of people for thousands of years.

Yes, they can make you knowledgeable.

To be knowledgeable is one thing, and to know is totally different.

A blind man can be knowledgeable about light, but he knows nothing of light; he has not experienced it.

He can collect all kinds of information about light, he can argue, philosophize, systematize;

he can write great treatises on light, but he has not tasted the joy of light – he has not seen even a single ray of light.

He has not seen the rainbow, the colors of the flowers, the wings of a butterfly.

He has not seen the green trees, he has not seen the stars, the sun, the moon. He has missed all that.

And what he has accumulated is simply rubbish.

It is better to be ignorant and have eyes than to be very knowledgeable about light and be blind.

The universities exist for that purpose specifically.

Happy 4th of July, America!
 


 

Among our parades, barbecues and fireworks, let's not forget the political, philosophical and legal principles embodied by the Declaration of Independence, whose signing we celebrate today, as well as the subsequent U.S. Constitution, The Bill of Rights and its other amendments (see below).

Unless as a country and a nation we're forgetful ignorant fools and/or hypocrites who only pay superficial lip service to the above documents and principles, then we have a sacred obligation to make sure that we strictly adhere to and do not violate these principles not only domestically, but also abroad in our country's foreign policy.
 
This includes

1. Encouraging, aiding and, sometimes, whenever it is absolutely necessary  and appropriate, gently (diplomatically) and legally influencing (pressuring?) other countries into adopting and observing these democratic principles and inalienable rights in regard to their own citizens.

2. Never allowing, promoting, facilitating, organizing or managing other countries and their governments in ignoring or systematically violating the above principles, especially basic human rights, even when doing so seems politically or economically expedient (i.e. supposedly beneficial to "national interests" of America at the time)  
 
3. Refraining from interfering in international and domestic affairs of foreign countries by using improper means, such as
 
   - disinformation, propaganda and censorship,
 
   - manipulation (availability, price, quantity, quality) of energy, food, medical and other key economic commodities, including by sanctions and blockades,

   - funding international or domestic groups engaged in terrorism, extremism, radical nationalism, racism, xenophobia and religious persecution,

   - surreptitiously directing and funding local political parties, politicians, senior civil servants, non-profit organizations and other key agents of influence,

   - improperly funding, directing and influencing international & local news media, social media  and entertainment industry members (movie, music, TV & radio, art & theater)

   - illegal (locally and/or internationally) manufacture, export, import, contraband and distribution of civilian or military weapons (e.g. firearms, shoulder-launched missiles, drones (sea & air), mortars & artillery, etc.)

   - improper interference in local political campaigns and elections,

   - aiding & abetting (material support) riots and unlawful (often violent) regime change operations/attempts,

   - aiding & abetting racial, ethnic or religious strife, persecution & cleansing to weaken a country or to promote & support certain political processes for the benefit of factions friendly to or controlled by the U.S.
 
4. never tolerating (turning a blind eye on) serious human rights violations, such as

- war crimes, including
   -- use of chemical, biological or radioactive & nuclear weapons,
    -- murder, beating, maiming, torture, malnourishment, and other improper treatment of prisoners of war,
    -- mistreatment of civilians (non-combatants), especially the elderly, women and children,

- crimes against humanity,

- human trafficking, including sex trafficking and trafficking of minor children,

- manufacture, import, export, contraband, import and distribution of illegal drugs,

- illegal human bodily organ harvesting, export, import, contraband, sales, distribution and implants,
 
- sabotage & destruction (vandalism, terrorism) of key infrastructure, including energy, transportation, communications, medical, food & water supplies, agriculture and etc,
 
- environmental sabotage & destruction (e.g. fires, floods, earthquakes, air, water & soil pollution [contamination], damage to agricultural crops),  
 
- money laundering, tax evasion and corruption (bribery) of domestic or foreign officials (both in the public and private sectors),

- misappropriation, theft, conversion or embezzlement of government funds & property,
 
The above prohibitions would stop the support of criminal regimes, dictators and organizations who supposedly further (short term only?) U.S. National Interests locally, regionally or worldwide and benefit from our country either supporting them (directly or indirectly) or turning a blind eye on their crimes, including corruption -- "He may be a SOB, bit he's our SOB."
 
The above prohibitions could also put the CIA's Directorate of Operations out of business or a very tight leash.

So why do I bring all of this up today, July 4, 2023?

Because, based on my experience, competence, information and belief, our country has been engaged in a lot of the above "misconduct") in regard to Russia and Ukraine, countries both of which I care for dearly (as much as the U.S.) and hope to see as truly free, democratic and prosperous independent allies (of their own will and accord) of America.

Time permitting, I'll try to draft an essay on exactly which negative, undemocratic and un-American policies our country has been pushing or conveniently tolerating or providing material support to realizing in Ukraine
 
And guess what?
 
If America continues on the same path and in the same manner in regard to both Russia and Ukraine, then nothing good will come out of it -- actually, the political, economic, military and even moral blow-back will arrive (thanks in part to China, BRICS, Shanghai Organization and etc.)  within the next five (5) years with profound negative consequences for our country.
 
When we ask for G-d's blessing, we ask G-d to ensure and give just rewards for our conduct -- good conduct deserves good rewards (good blessings), while bad conduct ensures an appropriate and inescapable punishment (both for punitive and instructional purposes).

So if we truly want G-d to Bless America (in positive rewarding way and not in a punitive manner), then we need to do everything as a country (government & business) and a people (citizens, taxpayers, voters and consumers) to make sure that America stays on the path laid out by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution.
   
Even if staying on that right path means dropping the age-old tried & proven (albeit evil) techniques of U.S. foreign policy, especially in developing countries.

Since the Zelensky regime is absolutely controlled by the U.S. and its NATO allies, such an ominous decision would be made ONLY with the surreptitious support of the United States, the U.K. and their key NATO allies (such as Germany & France).

Thus, the British Times writes in an editorial that Russian President Vladimir Putin may well order the explosion of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in order to strengthen his shaky, according to the newspaper, positions. 
 
The BBC Corporation, with reference to the Times, claims that the Russian "army has already blown up the hydroelectric dam in Kakhovka (although Russia simply denies this). It is quite possible that they also have a plan to strike at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant."

According to an influential British newspaper, this version is supported not only by Ukrainian intelligence data, but also by the gradual withdrawal of military and personnel from the station, reports of which have appeared in recent days. 
 
And if this is the case, then – the Times concludes – "NATO countries should strongly warn Moscow that they will not leave unanswered a possible sabotage at the nuclear power plant." 
 
What kind of answer is this, the newspaper does not specify, but, in fact, it is not so important. 
 
If we are talking about the tactics of creating a threat, then only the announcement is important.

A little earlier, another influential newspaper, this time The Washington Post, also raised the topic of a possible terrorist attack on the NPP. She, referring to the Ukrainian president and some intelligence, reported that, allegedly, Russian troops are preparing a “terrorist act with the release of radiation” at the captured Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Note that the scheme with the threat is being worked out not only by the Western media. 
 
On Sunday, Rossiyskaya Gazeta published a large article by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. 
 
The text there is appropriate: "The current confrontation between the West and other countries has put the world on the brink of World War III. In the case of the third World War, there will be no winners — there will be a nuclear winter, epidemics and famine on Earth." 
 
And then the conclusion: "Russia is ready to look for reasonable compromises, but taking into account the fundamental points for it.

Another recent speech by a Russian official, this time the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov. 
 
He states that "Russia keeps the door open for a political and diplomatic solution to the crisis, but the prospects for the development of events in such a scenario are currently quite vague due to the fact that Kiev and its Western curators continue to rely on the use of military force."

Bringing together such a set of information guides, it can be assumed that in the coming weeks the topic of the threat of a large man-made catastrophe will become one of the main ones on both sides of the Atlantic.

- primarily for the sake of photojournalism without providing available assistance (medical care, food, protection [from animal or human predators], shelter and/or evacuation)

   or

- for propaganda / information warfare / fake news? 

Sadly, I've seen a lot of "vulture" photo & video news coverage from Ukraine since the winter of 2013-2014 and the start of the civil war in Eastern Ukraine in the spring of 2014.
 
Some photos and video segments have been staged and faked.

What's worse, the vast majority of it has been by Ukrainian and Western news media.

This is based on my objective neutral observations and analysis.

So why did these Ukrainian and Western media journalists and news outlets violate the precepts of objective journalism, aside from being owned & controlled by establishment financial industrial groups that in turn control governments, political parties and politicians?
 
To arouse sympathy in The Americas, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand for the Pro-American Ukrainian government, even when its military, security & law enforcement agencies, paramilitaries and mercenaries commit human rights violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.
 
And to arouse anger and hate against Pro-Russian Ukrainian citizens and Russia, as the country that provided them with military, economic, political and humanitarian assistance from 2014 to 2022 and then invaded Ukraine in February of 2022 to protect them and Russia's national security interests against NATO encroachment.
 
That's modern mainstream journalism today.

In the 1990's there was a widely circulated photo of a vulture waiting for a starving little girl to die and feast on her corp.

That photo was taken during the 1993/94 famine in Sudan, by Kevin Carter, a South African photojournalist, who later won the Pulitzer Prize for this 'amazing shot'.*

*However, as Kevin Carter was savouring his feat and being celebrated on major news channels and networks worldwide for such an 'exceptional photographic skill', he lived just for a few months to enjoy his supposed achievement and fame, as he later got depressed and took his own life!*

*Kevin Carter's depression started, when during one of such interviews (a phone-in programme), someone called in and asked him what happened to the little girl.

He simply replied, "I didn't wait to find out after this shot, as I had a flight to catch..."

Then the caller said, "I put it to you that there were two vultures on that day, one had a camera".*

*Thus, his constant thought of that statement, later led to depression and he ultimately committed suicide.

Kevin Carter could have still been alive today and even much more famous, if he had just picked that little girl up and taken her to the United Nations Feeding Center, where she was attempting to reach or at least take her to somewhere safe.*

*Today, regrettably this is what is happening all around the world.

The world celebrates stupidity and inhumane act, at the detriment of other.

Kevin Carter should have taken the girl away from that place, which will cost him nothing, yet he didn't.

Here is the inhuman posture, "he had all time to take his shot, but he had no time to save the girl's life".*

*Thus, we must all understand that, the purpose of life, is to also touch lives. So are you too a Vulture.

In whatever we do, let humanity come first, before what we stand to gain out of the situation.

In all we do let's always think of others and how we can be of benefit to humanity, how we can lend a helping hand and wipe away tears.

Hence, when we seek knowledge, wealth, fame, skills or even positions, let's think of how we can use it to benefit the people and society at large.*

*Today, there is a lot of poverty in the land, so if our God Almighty has blessed you, be a blessing to others, extend a helping hand to those in need.

Remember, you giving, is also a way of appreciating divine blessings, bounties, and favour of God Almighty upon you.

Therefore, it is very important that we all should help the poor and needy, the orphans and widows amongst us, so that they can meet their needs.

The vulture is waiting for the girl to die and to eat her.

The photograph was taken by South African photojournalist, Kevin Carter, while on assignment to Sudan.

He took his own life a couple of month later due to depression.

In March 1993 Kevin Carter made a trip to Sudan. Near the village of Ayod, Carter found a girl who had stopped to rest while struggling to a United Nations feeding centre, whereupon a vulture had landed nearby.

Careful not to disturb the bird, he waited for twenty minutes until the vulture was close enough, positioned himself for the best possible image and only then chased the vulture away.

At this point Carter was probably not yet aware that he had shot one of the most controversial photographs in the history of photojournalism.

   “The parents of the children were busy taking food from the plane, so they had left their children only briefly while they collected the food.

   This was the situation for the girl in the photo taken by Carter. A vulture landed behind the girl.

   To get the two in focus, Carter approached the scene very slowly so as not to scare the vulture away and took a photo from approximately 10 meters. He took a few more photos before chasing the bird away”.

The photograph was sold to The New York Times where it appeared for the first time on March 26, 1993.

Practically overnight hundreds of people contacted the newspaper to ask whether the child had survived, leading the newspaper to run a special editor’s note saying the girl had enough strength to walk away from the vulture, but that her ultimate fate was unknown.

Because of this, Carter was bombarded with questions about why he did not help the girl, and only used her to take a photograph.

As with many dramatic photographs, Carter came under criticism for this shot.

The St. Petersburg Times in Florida wrote: “The man adjusting his lens to take just the right frame of her suffering, might just as well be a predator, another vulture on the scene”.

The attitude that public opinion condemned was not only that of taking the picture instead of chasing the vulture immediately away, but also the fact that he did not help the girl afterwards –as Carter explained later- leaving her in such a weak condition to continue the march by her self towards the feeding center.

However, Carter was working in a time when photojournalists were told not to touch famine victims for fear of spreading disease.

Carter estimated that there were twenty people per hour dying at the food center. The child was not unique.

The Vulture and the Little Girl, also known as The Struggling Girl, is a photograph by Kevin Carter which first appeared in The New York Times on 26 March 1993.

It is a photograph of a frail famine-stricken boy, initially believed to be a girl,[1] who had collapsed in the foreground with a hooded vulture eyeing him from nearby.

The child was reported to be attempting to reach a United Nations feeding centre about a half mile away in Ayod, Sudan (now South Sudan), in March 1993, and to have survived the incident.

The picture won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography award in 1994.

Carter took his own life four months after winning the prize.

This image has also been the subject of many criticisms for being a pornography of poverty.[2]

In Ayod

In 2011, the child's father revealed the child was actually a boy, Kong Nyong, and had been taken care of by the UN food aid station. Nyong had died in about 2007, of "fevers", according to his family.[1]
Publication and public reaction

In March 1993, The New York Times was seeking an image to illustrate a story by Donatella Lorch about the Sudan famine.

Nancy Buirski, the newspaper's picture editor on the foreign desk, called Marinovich, who told her about "an image of a vulture stalking a starving child who had collapsed in the sand."

Carter's photo was published in the 26 March 1993 edition.[16] The caption read:

"A little girl, weakened from hunger, collapsed recently along the trail to a feeding center in Ayod. Nearby, a vulture waited."[4]

This first publication in The New York Times "caused a sensation", Marinovich wrote, adding, "It was being used in posters for raising funds for aid organisations.

Papers and magazines around the world had published it, and the immediate public reaction was to send money to any humanitarian organisation that had an operation in Sudan."[17]

Claiming responsible ethical behaviour of photographers, publishers and the viewers of such photographs of shocking scenes, cultural writer Susan Sontag wrote in her essay Regarding the Pain of Others (2003):[18]

   "There is shame as well as shock in looking at the close-up of a real horror.
   Perhaps the only people with the right to look at images of suffering of this extreme order are those who could do something to alleviate it … or those who could learn from it.
   The rest of us are voyeurs, whether or not we mean to be."[19]

Special editorial

Due to the public reaction and questions about the child's condition, The New York Times published a special editorial in its 30 March 1993 edition, which said in part,

   "A picture last Friday with an article about the Sudan showed a little Sudanese girl who had collapsed from hunger on the trail to a feeding center in Ayod.
   A vulture lurked behind her.
   Many readers have asked about the fate of the girl.
   The photographer reports that she recovered enough to resume her trek after the vulture was chased away.
   It is not known whether she reached the center."[20]

Kevin Carter (13 September 1960 – 23 July 1994)[1] was a South African photojournalist and member of the Bang-Bang Club.

He was the recipient in 1994 of a Pulitzer Prize for his photograph depicting the 1993 famine in Sudan.

He died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 33.

His story is depicted in the book The Bang-Bang Club,[2] written by Greg Marinovich and João Silva and published in 2000.

Carter shot an image of what appeared to be a little girl, fallen to the ground from hunger, while a vulture lurked on the ground nearby.

He told Silva he was shocked by the situation he had just photographed, and had chased the vulture away.

A few minutes later, Carter and Silva boarded a small UN plane and left Ayod for Kongor.[13]

Sold to The New York Times, the photograph first appeared on 26 March 1993, and syndicated worldwide.

Hundreds of people contacted the newspaper to ask the fate of the girl.

The paper said that according to Carter, "she recovered enough to resume her trek after the vulture was chased away" but that it was unknown whether she reached the UN food center.[14]

In April 1994, the photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography.[15][16]

In March 1994, Carter took a photograph of the three Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging members being shot during their abortive invasion of Bophuthatswana just before the South African election.

Carter ran out of film halfway through the incident.

Eamonn McCabe of The Guardian said: "It was a picture that made nearly every front page in the world, the one real photograph of the whole campaign."[18]

Death

Four months after being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, Carter died of suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning on 27 July 1994 at age 33.[19][20]

Scene from the Great Flood or The Great Flood is an 1826 painting of Noah's flood by Joseph-Désiré Court.

It was first exhibited at the Paris Salon on 4 November 1827 although - as a laureate of the Prix de Rome - he could not compete for the awards of that Salon.

The French state purchased the work for 3000 francs and it is now in the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon.
Description

The painting illustrates the biblical flood that wiped out humanity on earth. 

In the biblical story Noah and his family survive.

The painting is seen as an allegory of a man clinging to his past. 

In the painting the man reaches out to save his father who represents the past, instead of saving his own son who represents the future or his wife who represents the current.[1]
